Three-year residence on first issue — or the duration of your contract, whichever is shorter, with straightforward renewals.

Family included from day one — spouses receive an open work permit and children are enrolled in free public schools.

Path to permanent residency in 21 months if you reach German B1 (or 33 months at A1), and full citizenship in just 3–5 years under the 2024 nationality law.

No labour-market test for most regulated and shortage occupations, so approvals are faster than employer-sponsored routes in many other countries.

Recognised qualification — either a German university degree, a foreign degree listed positively in the ANABIN database, or a vocational qualification of at least 2 years recognised by the relevant German authority.

Concrete job offer from a German employer matching your qualification, with a signed employment contract or binding offer letter on file.

Minimum salary of around €43,800 per year (2026 reference) for general skilled roles, with lower thresholds for shortage occupations and applicants under 45.

Health insurance valid in Germany from the date of entry.

Adequate funds to cover your initial weeks (proof of employment salary typically suffices).

Clean criminal record and a valid passport with at least 12 months of remaining validity.

Language: there is no fixed German level required for many roles, but A2–B1 is strongly recommended for regulated professions (nursing, teaching) and for daily life.

Valid Indian passport with at least 2 blank pages and ≥12 months validity.

Two recent biometric photos (35 × 45 mm, EU standard).

Completed long-stay national visa (D-visa) application form, signed in duplicate.

Signed German employment contract or binding job offer mentioning salary, role and start date.

Detailed CV (Lebenslauf) in reverse chronological order with no gaps.

Degree certificates, mark-sheets and the positive ANABIN / ZAB Statement of Comparability.

For regulated professions: official recognition decision (Anerkennungsbescheid).

Experience letters, payslips and tax documents proving relevant work history.

Proof of accommodation in Germany (employer letter, rental agreement or temporary hotel booking).

Travel and expat health insurance covering at least the first 90 days.

Visa fee payment receipt (currently €75 for adults, €37.50 for minors).

Cover letter from the employer explaining the role and why you were selected.
